Starting salary c. £25,200-29,700 p.a. - plus performance-related annual bonus
(on a range rising to £34,200p.a. plus annual bonus)
We are looking for someone, ideally a graduate, who can demonstrate interest in local democracy, community leadership and decision-making, to work as part of a team providing support to Council committees and to our elected Councillors and the communities they serve.
The job involves arranging, attending and minuting a range of committee and other meetings; supporting and liaising closely with our Lead Members (Cabinet Members) and senior officers; and helping to service our decision-making systems. This is a great opportunity at the heart of a busy London local authority and, whilst undoubtedly challenging at times, will provide a varied and solid grounding for a career here at the Royal Borough or elsewhere in the wider public sector.
You’ll need to be flexible and hardworking, and must above all have a clear interest in local authority governance and the delivery of open, transparent, decision-making and scrutiny. You must be self-assured, able to write clearly and concisely, and a proven communicator with good IT skills, political awareness, an eye for detail and lots of enthusiasm. You’ll need instinctively to maintain a confidential, professional and sensitive approach at all times and you’ll have to show compassion and enthusiasm and to work well as part of our wider Governance Team.
Candidates will be expected to express clearly and concisely in their application form (in no more than 500 words) why they are interested in this opportunity and also to demonstrate they understand the role of local Councillors in the Council’s governance arrangements. At interview stage we will assess your relevant knowledge and interest, probably by way of a short presentation and/or a written test; and look especially for candidates who are keen, informed, can ‘think on their feet’ and are well-presented.
Your experience is important but so too is your outlook and attitude and we welcome applications from people from a wide range of backgrounds.
The job is based at Kensington Town Hall where we work in bright open-plan offices with excellent facilities. Flexible working is encouraged.
For an informal chat about the role, please contact Martyn Carver, Governance Manager, on 020 7361 2477.
The closing date for the receipt of applications is Thursday 6 December and interviews will be held on Friday 14 December.
