The Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Disabled Children’s Team in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We are a specialist social work service within Family and Children’s Services.
This post involves working with the Disabled Children’s Team and Integrated Transitions Team (Adult Learning Disability Team). Working with young people aged 14 to 25 and their families who are significantly affected by physical and learning disability, autism, chronic physical ill health, or who have additional complex needs.
The Disabled Children’s Team is based in Kensington Town Hall and works closely alongside the multi disciplinary short breaks team, which includes short break practitioners, occupational therapists and a systemic family therapist. The Disabled Children’s Team are co-located with a specialist CAMHS Team.
As well as being part of the Disabled Children’s Team (3 days), the Advanced Practitioner for Transition Social Work will also spend time (2 days) each week based within the Integrated Transition Team (Adult Learning Disability Team); a multi-disciplinary team made up of health and social care practitioners based at 1-9 St Marks Road.
We offer a unique learning and development opportunity, developing systemic family based social work practice with the support and input of Systemic Family Therapists based within the social work teams. There is a rolling programme of training to support practice development across the service.
As an Advanced Social Work Practitioner for RBKC you could both benefit significantly from the experience and learning we can offer and help us to change the way we work for the better and further improve outcomes for children. To this end, all our Social Workers are expected to attend our in-house systemic training.
About You:
You will be a qualified social worker
HCPC or Social Work England registered.
Have experience of working in a statutory social work setting.
Demonstrate commitment to systemic practice.
You should have at least 3 years’ post qualifying social work experience; at least 2 of those years within a disabled children or adults’ social work team.
You must have worked in a statutory children’s social work role for at least 1 year.
It would be helpful if you had court, mentoring and transitions experience.
Role Requirements:
You are expected to undertake responsibility for the following range of work:
- Child protection.
- Children being looked after by the Local Authority.
- Children and the courts.
- Work with children in need and their families.
- Adult safeguarding
- Preparation for adulthood
- Care Act Needs Assessments and Support Plans
- Children with complex health needs and disabilities
- Short break assessments
